Bubbling With Joy: Grab Your Partner, Do-Si-Do

Meanwhile back on the dance floor...I was getting swung around by lots of people!

First, Mr. C's brother:

Then our good friend B from San Fran:

And he handed me over to our crazy dancing fool friend P from Long Island...

Who passed me on to Mr. C's dad's wife!

Dizzy as I was from all the partner changes, this one was the best, and rather unexpected!

I love how delighted I look in these photos.  I never would have thought Mr. C would get out in the spotlight to dance again.

Yep, this was when I knew Mr. C was really enjoying the party.   Chalk one up for Mrs. C!

Bubbling With Joy: Mad Men Style

Mr. C wanted to have a little time with his guys during the reception, so as soon as people started hitting the dance floor, he snuck outside with some of his buddies for cigars and bourbon.  I sent one of our photographers out there after them, and the pictures turned out pretty great!

Here's best man S helping Mr. C with a light.

The whole lot of them were looking very dapper indeed!

Bubbling With Joy: Cut Some Rugs!

After the special dances were finished, it was time for everyone to get out on the floor and enjoy some music!  My new father-in-law and I decided we would set an example, which got everyone up and moving.

Taking a quick break to check out the rings...

Apparently there was an impromptu height competition...

And it's suddenly time for line dancing.

Am I the only person who had never heard of the Cupid Shuffle???

 It was fun!

Sleeves were rolled up...getting serious now.

And the good times were just getting started!

Bubbling With Joy: Dancing with Dad

After my first dance with my husband, it was time to get my dad out on the floor.

I had a tough time picking a song for the dad/daughter dance because my dad and I have never been terribly close.  A lot of the songs out there are pretty sappy and just didn't seem right!  Luckily, dad is a big fan of old-school country music, so I chose an old favorite - Waltz Across Texas.

It was a big hit, and I love the photos and my memories of dancing with my dad that night.  He even sang to me a little.

Are you doing a dad/daughter dance?

Bubbling With Joy: Cincinnati?

Mr. C is not a big dancer, not at all.  I, on the other hand, love to dance.  I was set on having a first dance - nothing fancy, but I made sure he understood how important it was to me that we have that dance and those memories.

Whenever anyone used to needle Mr. C about when he was going to get on the stick and propose already, he would say "just as soon as I get back from Cincinnati."  And when the person would get excited and say "Oh yeah?  When are you going to Cincinnati?!" he would respond "No plans!"  So - when I was going through possible songs for our first dance, I was having a hard time choosing one that seemed right.  Mr. C listened to a few of them, thought for a minute, and then suggested a song by Drew Kennedy called, appropriately enough, "Cincinnati."  A beautiful song, with a bit of an inside joke folded in.  Perfect.

A riverboat in Cincinnati, we were
Having fun, you smiled at me by the water's edge
before we went to bed
The city lights along the river made me
Promise things, hope I deliver in another year
was it me or the beer

I don't know what you do to me
but every once in a while
I guess it's something that I can't see
hiding in your smile
California and Mexico
I've been to Houston too
Never thought that I would ever fall in love with you

Took a walk along the levee and we
told ourselves we would get ready in a little while
it was only a mile
To the church for the ceremony
I held the door for almost everybody and watched you laugh
behind the camera's glass

From Colorado I got a call
I guess it snowed again
I don't know how those two survived at all
but I'm glad that they're my friends
California and Mexico
I've been to Houston too
Never thought that I would ever fall in love with you

Eight hours home on the interstate
I'm not alone but you can hardly even stay awake
as my headlights shake
I watch you sleep, I watch the road ahead
I watch you dream, I wish that I could lay you down in bed
but we're not home yet

I don't know what you do to me
but every once in a while
I guess it's something that I can't see
hiding in your smile
California and Mexico
I've been to Houston too
Never thought that I would ever fall in love with you

Bubbling With Joy: CAKE!

Our cake-cutting was pretty low-key, and Mr. Cauldron kindly didn't smash any cake in my face.  We did have fun, though!  Here we are cutting into one of the cakes:

I fed him first...

And then he fed me.  He wiggled the fork around in my mouth, which made me laugh.

The cake was mighty tasty, which I considered pretty important.  My aunt has been making wedding cakes for as long as I can remember, and I knew I wanted her to make the cake for our wedding.  Since she was driving across Texas and wouldn't have a lot of time to prep on site, I asked her to just do several layer cakes with plain buttercream icing in all different textures, and we'd have a cake table instead of one tiered cake.  I left the details up to her, and they all turned out beautifully!

Here I am with my aunt checking everything out pre-ceremony:

She did an amazing job!

And here are some close-ups of the cakes:

This one was a bit heavy so the icing slipped a little on one side in transport...but it sure still tasted good!

And here is the one we cut into - it had a little sailboat topper on it with our family name on the side and our boat name on the transom!

Are you a big fan of cake?  What do you think of having a cake table vs. a tiered cake?
